About

de begroting is a fiscal-transparency project. We aggregate Belgian government financial data from official sources and present it in a way that anyone can read.

Our goals

• Make government budgets understandable to everyone.
• Enable comparison across time periods and categories.
• Provide full source citations for every figure.
• Support drilldown from high-level categories to specific programmes.

Data structure

We use COFOG (Classification of Functions of Government), the UN/Eurostat standard, which hierarchically breaks government spending into 10 main categories (Level 1) and 69 subcategories (Level 2).

Data shown is from Eurostat, the National Bank of Belgium, and partner statistical agencies, with full citations on every figure.
